blue_biotech_303x148 A draft agenda is now available for our SUBMARINER Blue Biotechnology Cooperation Event taking place in Kiel, Germany 9–10 May 2012. The conference focuses on great biodiversity of marine organisms which offer a promising potential for biotechnological application towards high value products. It will offer a platform for networking and cooperation among scientists, private companies and public institutions working in the field of Marine Biotechnology in the Baltic Sea Region and beyond. Registration is open until 6 April 2012.

SUBMARINER AS A POSSIBLE EUSBSR FLAGSHIP



EU flagSUBMARINER partners are currently discussing the possibilities of applying as a flagship project under the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. This is part of the project's networking activities which aim at launching a permanent and self-sustaining network structure bringing together various stakeholders interested in the further development of sustainable marine uses in the Baltic Sea Region.

SUBMARINER COMPENDIUM AND INTERACTIVE MAP EXPECTED IN SUMMER 2012



SUBMARINER logoThe SUBMARINER Compendium, an inventory of new and innovative concepts in the sustainable use of Baltic marine resources, is expected to be published in summer 2012. It shall, inter alia, describe current and potential future marine uses, their environmental and social impacts, market potential as well as gaps and obstacles in the legal framework.
The publication of the Compendium will be accompanied by the launch of an interactive web-based map visualising current and potential future innovative uses of Baltic marine resources.

SUBMARINER AT CONFERENCE ON SUSTAINABLE BIOMASS PRODUCTION & USE IN THE BALTIC SEA REGION, COPENHAGEN · 20–21 MARCH 2012



European Environment Agency (EEA)SUBMARINER has been invited to present itself during a conference on sustainable biomass production and use in the Baltic Sea Region, organised by the Nordic Council of Ministers and the European Environment Agency (EEA). On behalf of the SUBMARINER partnership, Fredrik Gröndahl (Royal Institute of Technology, KTH) will talk about "New innovative uses of marine substrates from the Baltic Sea" on this conference which aims at presenting, discussing and investigating challenges and possibilities for sustainable biomass production and use in the Nordic and Baltic Sea Region.

SUBMARINER AT MEETING OF CBSS EXPERT GROUP ON MARITIME POLICY



CBSS German Presidency logoSUBMARINER has been invited to present the project progress at a meeting of the CBSS Expert Group on Maritime Policy in Berlin, Germany on 24 April 2012. SUBMARINER project manager Angela Schultz-Zehden will talk about "An assessment of innovative approaches to the sustainable use of marine resources". The meeting is held during the "Baltic Sea Days" as a part of the German CBSS Presidency 2011–2012.

SUBMARINER WORKSHOP ON INNOVATIVE MARINE USES AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO BE HELD IN KLAIPEDA, LITHUANIA on 7 JUNE 2012



SUBMARINER logoLithuanian SUBMARINER partners Klaipeda University Coastal Research and Planning Institute (CORPI) and Klaipeda Science and Technology Park are organising a workshop on the potential of innovative marine uses for regional development. It targets Lithuanian stakeholders and shall be held in Klaipeda, Lithuania on 7 June 2012. Among other things, some of the regional activities within the SUBMARINER project will be presented to the participants.
