CONFERENCE ON SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION AND USE OF BIOMASS, COPENGAGEN, 20–21 MARCH 2012



SUBMARINER will be presented in a conference on Sustainable Production and Use of Biomass in the Baltic Sea Region to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark on 20–21 March 2012.
More information on the conference will be published on the SUBMARINER website as soon as the agenda has been released by the conference organisers, the Nordic Council of Ministers and the European Energy Agency.

COMPENDIUM: PROGRESS & EDITORIAL MEETING



Back-to-back with the above mentioned conference in Copenhagen, the compendium authors will get together to an editorial meeting to discuss the latest version of the compendium.
Working meetings with several of the authors have been held in November and December 2011 and the remaining authors will be contacted during January 2012.

UPDATES ON BLUE BIOTECHNOLOGY COOPERATION EVENT



The first key note speakers for the upcoming SUBMARINER Blue Biotech Cooperation Event are confirmed:
Jan-Bart Calewaert, Science Officer Marine Board at the European Science Foundation (Belgium), will give a general overview on Blue Biotech in Europe.
Allan Cembella, Professor for eukaryotic microbiology at Alfred Wegener Institute (Germany), will talk about microalgae as a promising source for new bioactive compounds.
Fernando de la Calle, Head of Microbiology R&D, Drug Discovery at PharmaMar (Spain), will present strategies for the development of marine-derived drugs
There is also a "tentative yes" from Marcel Jaspars, Professor at the Marine Biodiscovery Centre at the University of Aberdeen.

Blue Biotech Cooperation Event - Kiel, Germany - 9-10 May
