SUBMARINER Blue Biotechnology Cooperation Event a Success!

bluebiogroup_303x148 More than 150 representatives of research institutions, private companies and public institutions in the field of Blue Biotechnology participated in our SUBMARINER Blue Biotechnology Cooperation Event in Kiel, Germany on 9 and 10 May 2012. The event offered them a platform for networking and cooperation. It was hosted by the Centre for Marine Natural Products (KiWiZ) at GEOMAR and Norgenta North German Life Science Agency GmbH.
The commercial use of marine organisms holds enormous potential in a wide range of applications. This was shown by the presentations which did not only give country overviews from the Baltic Sea Region countries, but also highlighted specific research projects and commercial applications in the fields of genetics, food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. To further strengthen the Baltic Sea Region’s position in the field of Blue Biotechnology, the region should focus on aligning its strategies and formulating clear ambitions. This was one of the results of the concluding panel discussion.
Pictures and presentations from the Blue Biotechnology Cooperation Event can now be found here. As a follow-up, SUBMARINER will also produce a Blue Biotechnology Magazine with summaries of the event and articles by the conference speakers.
