Klaipeda University Coastal Research and Planning Institute

The Coastal Research and Planning Institute (CORPI) at Klaipeda University is an autonomous research, education and consultancy organisation utilising the expertise in coastal science and management within Klaipeda University. We perform regional services and give advice to coastal industry and administration and teach and advance marine and coastal science. In 2002, CORPI was recognised as a EU centre of excellence in coastal and lagoon studies.

CORPI has been involved in numerous research and consulting projects financed by the EU and other funds (FP, LIFE, INTAS, INTERREG, BONUS, IEE, Norway Grants). We acted as the lead partner for two the Interreg III A/TACIS projects closely related to marine spatial planning issues (“Sustainable Development Indicators for ICZM in the South-Eastern Baltic” and “Perspectives of Offshore Wind Energy development in marine areas of Lithuania, Poland and Russia”).

CORPI’s role in SUBMARINER

CORPI will cover the Lithuanian part of analyses and assessments of new uses carried out in SUBMARINER and coordinate the secion on wave energy. We also cover regional implementation activities under three thematic branches: ecological and economic threats and benefits of zebra mussel cultivation, potential uses of Curonian Lagoon algae, and wave energy potential in the Baltic Sea.
